Radial Masked Blur

Here are the initial results of the Radial Masked Blur effect. I need to edit the masks for the horizontal and vertical blurring, but it isn't too bad as-is. The editing part is really easy to do anyways.

Blur value is still set to 0.007 but is now using 12 samples instead of 8. I can easily change the effect with values and changing the mask. Here is an example of the mask used for the full radius blurred effect. Click for the full view.

The same type of mask textures are used for the Masked Blur effect, which will be posted shortly, except that their inverted. Some of this effect variations will be used in my project, such as while sprinting/running, getting fatigued, and so forth.

Edit: Already fixed some of the textures and the effect looks a lot better. The Horizontal Top/Bottom texture made the effect look fairly bad, but now it's a lot better since the mask texture is more defined.

  1. this would be useful for racing games, over 100km/hr!

  2. Yes thats a great speed effect. Just in time for working vehicles in LE :)

The radial effect will be awesome for a missile or weapon view also.

I'm going through the awful awful process of rebuilding all the PHY files but I hope to get one of our Pick-ups driving around later. Not that pick-up trucks ever go beyond speeds of three :) espeically with a one ton ZU-23 cannon on the back.

Oh, Eternal, I sent you a PM reply but I'm not sure if it was posted, web-browser went funny on me.

  3. Flexman, I got your PM. It will be great to have these shaders tested on large resolutions. Thanks for offering to test them.

This effect would definitely work great for racing games or for any situation where you're moving at a fast speed.

If I tweak the blur amount it works great for something like aiming down the iron sights of a gun. However, I may use a different effect, one that I'm working on, for that. Mixed with depth of field. Should work nicely for a situation like iron sight aiming.
